Welcome to the 'Word Page'. Here you will find the words (lyrics) to all of my songs. I have been writing since I was in my early teens, moreso since the summer of 2007. I am always saying, or hearing, words and phrases that I just have to jot down. A lot of them make it into my songs, some don't. This page is split into two parts. 'The Archive' and 'The Current'. I'm in the process of taking most of the old 'Words' from old notes in binders, and posting them. The newer and current ones will be posted as they the written. They order from the most recent at the top of the page, to the oldest at the bottom of the page, along with a short explanation to the inspiration for the words. ![]() ![]() 'Where Are You Now' starts out making the listener/reader think something different. But then, it turns into the true meaning. It's about watching someone sleep during the night. Something I'm sure we've all done at some point in our lives. Click to read: Where Are You Now - Wednesday, May 26, 2010 'She Loves Me Not' is another one of those songs. Is she really that confused? Is she really all over the place in her thinking? Click to read: She Loves Me Not - Friday, May 7, 2010 'White Musk' This is the first guitar file Scott Shepherd sent to me. It was only about a minute long, but I looped it to around 4 minutes. To me it sounded like a storm that came out of nowhere on what started out as a bright sunny day. An old girlfriend, HSQ and me were a storm in the making, and continued to be for a long time after our relationship ended. White Musk is the name of the perfume she wears. Click to read: White Musk - Sunday, March 7, 2010 'Blood Pool' I recently started working with a guitar player, Scott Shepherd. I guess one night he woke up at around 3 in the morning from a really bad dream. He recorded a guitar track for it and sent it to me. He also sent a few words he had put together about it. When I heard the guitar chorus, "Drowning in my own blood...Bleeding cause you ripped my fucking heart in two" immediately popped into my head. I started working around his words and came up with the finished product. It took me less than an hour to put it all together. Some fiction, some old thoughts of my own, some of my own bad dreams. Click to read: Blood Pool - Thursday, March 4, 2010 'Highway Bound' I was lying in bed one night and I started to think about the 'confilct' in Afghanistan. It started out to be a tribute to our Canadian soldiers, and it still is to a certain extent. After I started to write it a few thoughts came into my head. The war in Afghanistan will never be won. Mainly, due to the heroin trade. Heroin brings in over $4 billion dollars a year into their economy. The song shifted over to an anti drug piece, and the toll the fight for it's control takes. I truly believe, that in order to win the war on drugs, we have to stop the demand in our own backyards. The supply will always be abundant. Click to read: Highway Bound - Thursday, December 31, 2009 'Resurrection' Not too long ago, Miss HSQ and I came very close to rekindling our relationship. We spent some time together and within a week, some of our demons from the past, came back to haunt us. It was sad, frustrating, and it hurt like hell. Click to read: Resurrection - Friday, December 18, 2009 'Your Tomorrows'. I got talking to a girl who was living with a guy. Her and I hit it off immediately. One night as we were talking on the phone, I told her that I didn't care about him. I have one thing he doesn't....Your Tomorrows. I think I had the song written and recorded within a few days after that. Click to read: Your Tomorrows - Saturday, December 5, 2009 'Northern Girl' is the next installment of my 'Girl' songlist (Hideaway Girl, Island Girl, November Girl). There is nothing in the world like a Northern Girl. Brian Wilson said it best. "And the northern girls, with the way they kiss, they keep their boyfriends warm at night." Click to read: Northern Girl - Saturday, November 14, 2009 'Sometimes (It Ain't Enough)' is just that. Click to read: Sometimes (It Ain't Enough) - Thursday, September 17, 2009 'My Side Of Town' is kind of different. It is about welcoming a newbie to the dark side, showing him the ropes and explaining how things are there. Click to read: My Side Of Town - Wednesday, July 15, 2009 'Fine Line' is probably my most ambitious project yet. It took over a month to write and put all together. I've recorded it as well. It clocks in at just over 9 minutes. I really hope you like it. - JMR Click to read: Fine Line - Friday, June 12, 2009 'For You'. This is either the saddest, happy song, or the happiest, sad song I've written. It wasn't supposed to be a song about loss. Just kind of turned out that way.. Click to read: For You - Saturday, April 25, 2009 'Those Days (Letting Go)'. I had a conversation with someone recently about Dawn. I told her, "I wish Dawn nothing but the best. I wouldn't want to see her get hit by a bus. Mind you, if I saw that bus coming, I might not be the one to yell, 'look out' either. Click to read: Those Days (Letting Go) - Thursday, April 23, 2009 'My Own Prison'. It's often said, that with every ending, there's a new beginning. I tend to disagree. With every ending, there is just an ending. Glass half empty? Maybe, but most days I just feel lucky to have a glass. Doesn't matter to me if it's empty or full. Click to read: My Own Prison - Tuesday, April 7, 2009 'In Like A Lion, Out Like A Lamb'. This one has a bit of everyone lately. Click to read: In Like A Lion, Out Like A Lamb - Thursday, February 26, 2009 'Hands Of Time'. Another 'boy meets girl, boy loses girl' song. Click to read: Hands Of Time - Friday, November 28, 2008 'Before These Eyes'. A friend said to me a while back, that the love she felt for someone was like her first summer love. Immediately, I started thinking. This is what I came up with. Click to read: Before These Eyes - Thursday, November 20, 2008 'Sleeping Dogs Lie' is is pretty self explanatory Click to read: Sleeping Dogs Lie - Friday, October 31, 2008 'Still' is the last I'm going to write about that...lol. Click to read: Still - Wednesday, September 24, 2008 'What If'. With internet dating sites being called the hottest single's bars of the new millenium, you're bound to meet a few, if not more, people. And, everytime you do, you go into it with hope, that this one is the one. If you're lucky, really really lucky, at least one of them will work. More often than not though, they don't. I kind of took this song from the early stages of any one of those online connections before 2 people meet. Click to read: What If - Saturday, September 20, 2008 'Absolutely, Postively, Undeniably' is my first attempt at a real country song. I kinda like it. Click to read: Absolutely, Postively, Undeniably - Friday, August 29, 2008 'Lost (At The Corner Of Quinn And Wilson' is a bit of a tragic tale. Click to read: Lost (At The Corner Of Quinn And Wilson) - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 'On Your Love' is a look at how you feel after all the waiting and wondering is done, and she finally appears in your life. Click to read: On Your Love - Friday, August 15, 2008 'And She Smiles'. It is so cool to connect, and reconnect with new, and old friends. Especially when they live in a town with such a cool name. Sometimes, just the name of something can conjure up a lot of inspiration. Click to read: And She Smiles - Friday, June 20, 2008 'Over...Again' is a bit of a rant. I've had the basis for a few weeks now, but just finished it. It is about something that miss HSQ pulled not too long ago. Click to read: Over...Again - Thursday, May 22, 2008 'Our Town'. I've been working on Our Town for a few weeks now. I still don't think it's finished, but I'm deciding to post what I have. Back in the fall, I wrote 'Seasons Change' about how great our city is. I still think it could be a great city, but you would never know it now. The people and the attitudes just aren't the same. There is so much fear and loathing around these days, and there's no one to blame but our leaders (political and judicial). Click to read: Our Town - Friday, May 9, 2008 'Don't Tell Her' is full of contradictions. I think we both want each other to think we're ok, when really, I don't think we are. Click to read: Don't Tell Her - Monday, April 14, 2008 'If I Could' is a sympathetic view at someone's physical and emotional pain, and wishing I could do something about it. Click to read: If I Could - Friday, April 4, 2008 'My Cross' is a bit of a self-indulgent, reflective song. Maybe even a bit of a pity party as well. One can only guess where my head was at during this one. Click to read: My Cross - Wednesday, April 2, 2008 'Addicted' has a lot of smoking guitar running through it. It is about not being able to get enough of someone. Click to read: Addicted - Thursday, March 27, 2008 'Rhyme'. I really like this one. I have the music for it as well. It sounds really good. I'm not sure if I want it to be a stand alone, or as part of another song. Have to wait and see. Click to read: Rhyme - Thursday, March 20, 2008 'Let Down' is pretty self explanitory. There is a bit of a rap style rant within the song. It isn't meant as a mean spirited attempt at anything, but a reflection on some of the problems we have in relationships today. Click to read: Let Down - Wednesday, March 19, 2008 'Collision Course' is about meeting someone out of the blue. Click to read: Collision Course - Friday, March 14, 2008 'In The Dark' is a descriptive look at the dark side of a person's life, namely mine. It really doesn't have to be that bad of a place. Some of the things you bring back from there can be pretty amazing. Click to read: In The Dark - Friday, March 7, 2008 'Salem's On Fire' is about finally exorcising certain demons from my life through new found emotions. Salem, and that river, are synonyms for a little town in New Brunswick. We all know who the witch is. Click to read: Salem's On Fire - Tuesday, February 19, 2008 'Til We Fall' is very wordy, and kind of long. It was amazing to feel that way about someone again. Music has been written for this. Click to read: 'Til We Fall - Thursday, February 21, 2008 'What Lies Beneath' is a play on the word red. In the verses, there are references to things that are red. The chorus was something else I was writing and it seemed to fit. I think this one goes along with my surreality theme. Click to read: What Lies Beneath - Thursday, February 14, 2008 'Soul Salvation' is about not allowing anyone to have the negative power over me, ever again. It was inspired by a few people in my past. Click to read: Soul Salvation - Tuesday, February 12, 2008 'Women And Children First' is a commentary on who really gets hurt and affected by some of the stupid decisions and reasoning we have in this world. Click to read: Women And Children First - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 'Hideaway Girl'! The response has been incredible. I don't think I expected it. It was really only meant as a fun song, but it seems to have turned into a fantasy type song for quite a few people. I'm glad people like it. It now has the 2 guitar lines, and the bass line arranged for it. I can't wait to record it. Click to read: Hideaway Girl - Friday, November 16, 2007 'Stay Young' is the first song I've written about my daughter. She saw me go through a lot in the spring and summer of 2007. Ckick to read: Stay Young - Saturday, November 10, 2007 (Rev. 11/23/07) 'Fire And Wine' is about those relationships that may seem a bit taboo for one reason or another. Click to read: Fire And Wine - Saturday, November 10, 2007 'Surreality' is just a really odd and confusing take on how certain events have looked. Click to read: Surreality - Sunday, November 11, 2007 (Rev. 11/23/07) 'Unknown Angel' is an idealistic song. There's no one in particular that this is about. More of a 'wish list' type of song. Click to read: Unknown Angel - Friday, November 2, 2007 'Chasing That Hurricane' has even me confused. None of the verses rhyme and it is kind of 'out there'. Click to read: Chasing That Hurricane - Saturday, October 27, 2007 'Let The Music' is a celebration, a love, a passion of music. I really like this one, and the tune for it just cooks. Can't wait to work it up. Click to read: Let The Music - Thursday, October 25, 2007 'Head Held High' is about a transformation that I have made in the past 6 months. It is a very comparitive. From comments I have received, it looks as it may be my best writing so far. Click to read: Head Held High - Friday, October 19, 2007 'Tunnel Of Light' is all about putting one's life back in order, making necessary changes, and seeing that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. A lot of times, the recovery has to be done alone. Click to read: Tunnel Of Light - Wednesday, October 10, 2007 'Perfect Storm' is what happens inside one's mind when the emotional side and logical side of your brain become out of sync, and start to clash. Click to read: Perfect Storm - Thursday, October 11, 2007 'The Last Notch' is a look at the darkness some people feel at times in their life. This one might even get a 'Questionable Lyrics' sticker on the cd package. Click to read: The Last Notch - Friday, October 12, 2007 '10 After 2' was written for someone who has made me see, and realize a lot of things about myself, and how for the past 3 years, I lost myself trying to give someone everything.
